At the top of each page is the drop year and the number of animals represented by the graph. The top section is Hogget age fleece ASBV’s followed by Yearling Carcase traits and index’s at the bottom.

The graph usees ASBV’s (Australian Sheep Breeding Values) to compare one drop of animals to the next with out the impact of environment effects. Each trait in the graph is compared against the Merino Percentile report. The 50th percentile is the average of all animals in the Sheep Genetics database for the year that the report refers to.

From the graphs you can see that the average Hogget clean fleece weight has gone from the 50th percentile (Average fleece weight of the industry in 2007) in 1997 to the 10th percentile in 2007.

For move information on ASBV’s visit the MERINOSELECT website and lookup the publication on understanding MERINOSELECT ASBV’s.
