2008 lambing is the first time that we have scored the lambs for breech cover and breech wrinkle. The visual sheep scores developed by AWI and MLA were used as a guide (click here and look up Visual Sheep Scores pages 43 and 49).

Most of our animals are on the lower end of this scoring system, so we toughened the criteria so that the worst animals are 5’s and the best are 1’s. This was done to show us the variation between sires and to give us more power when making breeding decisions.

MERINOSELECT now have breeding values for Breech wrinkle. It would be more accurate to use these ASBV’s for breeding decisions, they can be found on the MERINOSELECT web site.
