An example of how the following table has been calculated
If you have a drop of 100 animals and Sire A produced one of these animals. Sire A contributes 50% of the genes of this animal and 0.5% of the drop. A grand parent of this animal would contribute 0.25% of the drop. If Sires A produced 20 animals out of the 100 his genes would have contributed to 10% of the Drop.
Most of the high-ranking Dams are mothers to the sires used in 2008.
The ewe 307240 ranks very high at 5.9%. She is the dam for 608124 and 607018 (2006 ET program), which were both used as sires in 2008.
The sire 107351 was not used in 2008, but his genes are so dominant that he turns up in the pedigree of this years sires and dams more then any other animal.
Not all animals in the drop have dam pedigrees, which is why 23.1% of the drop is from unknown Dams (STDDAM). There is only one animal in 2008 with an unknown sire (STDSRE), but the STDSRE stills ranks at 6.8% due to the male portion of the STDDAMâs.
